About the Author Steve Gerber breathes new life into the character he developed in the 1970s. He previously collaborated with artist Phil Winslade on the comic Nevada.Since 1965, Roy Thomas has been writing for movies, television, and especially comic books. With notable runs on Avengers, X-Men, Conan the Barbarian, Incredible Hulk, and Star Wars; he served as a Marvel editor from 1965-80 and editor-in-chief from 1972-74. He currently edits Alter Ego and writes two online Tarzan strips as well as the occasional comic book. He and his wife Dann live in South Carolina.Starlin is a 30-year veteran of the comic industry who is best known for his exploration of the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. He has worked in every genre imaginable, and some of his other comic work is collected in LIFE AND DEATH OF CAPTAIN MARVEL and INFINITY GAUNTLET.

By ChupacabraNJ Dated dialogue aside, this is a fine collection of classic horror stories from the mad mind of Steve Gerber. Before Alan Moore turned DC's Swamp Thing inside out and counterclockwise, Steve Gerber sent Marvel's mock monster on trippy trails. Gerber's influence is obvious on the works of current superstar creators like Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison, Peter Milligan and many others. Some stories work better than others, but on the whole, Gerber's unique voice is evident and well worth a read. Bring on volume two!

Fonseca Most of these stories are hampered by the dreadful "Marvel house scripting style" which was prevalent at the time these comics were published. The last few stories, with art by Mike Ploog are a different story altogether. The last story is magnificent, with really outstanding coloring... Those Ploog stories make it all worthwhile. Val Mayerik and Steve Gerber never really clicked... more's the shame.
