Now Approved by the Estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs By Stephen Vincent Kempton Several years ago Dynamite Entertainment realizing the early John Carter books are in public domain started publishing Warlord Of Mars comics not using the name John Carter , but just calling it Warlord Of Mars . The estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs sued Dynamite. While the legal results have not been made public, it has been announced that they are now working with the full cooperation of Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. This book is the results of that newly made agreement. The book was rebooted bringing in long time comic writer Ron Marz. Marz has a love for the Burroughs characters and was prior to this assignment already writing both The Mucker and Korak for Edgar RIce Burroughs Inc. Online Comic Strips. This Trade Paperback collects the first six issues from the Ongoing John Carter series. The storyline is called Invaders Of Mars. It involves a nemesis who John Carter battled during the Civil War. A Union Officer named Captain Joshua Clark. Clark through a parallel storyline has now become his own Warlord for a different alien race who want to invade Barsoom (Mars). The art for the book is very good and features a very multi-national flavour as is common with many of Dynamite books. The excellent interiors (for the first five chapters ) are by Abhishek Malsuni from New Dehli , India. Chapter Six is from Mexican artist Roberto Castro . Castro's art is a little bit sketchier but not jaringly different. The cover for this trade is from American Superstar J. Scott Campbell. With issue #2 Brazilian artist Ed Benes takes over as the main cover artist. Since this is Dynamite you have an entire slew of variant covers and those are collected in a gallery in the back of this book. Trying to collect all these variants can be pricey and a good incentive to just wait for the trade. This is a very handsome volume and Dynamite's best Warlord Of Mars book yet. It gets my Highest Recommendation. It has been a very good year for Edgar Rice Burroughs in comics. I am also recommending the Tarzan newspaper strip collections by Manning , Foster and Hogarth, The excellent adaptations from Sequential Pulp and of course the online comic strips .

The action moves quickly, making it a fun and enjoyable book. The artwork is quite good. I also liked the cover gallery included at the end.
