Decades ago, a being known as the Giant of Light joined Shin Hayata of the Scientific Special Search Party to save Earth from an invasion of terrifying monsters known as Kaiju. Now, many years later, those dark days are fading into memory, and the world is at peace. But in the shadows a new threat is growing, a danger that can only be faced by a new kind of hero—a new kind of ULTRAMAN… With the SSSP now operating as a covert agency, Shinjiro Hayata has inherited the mantle of Ultraman from his father and learned of a new and terrifying alien invasion. Though Shinjiro has his father’s powers and an amazing armored exo-suit, he has a lot to learn if he’s going to survive this secret war!

This one does a little more world building than than the previous volume. We learn that Earth government aligned themselves with an interstellar organization that was helping keep aliens away from Earth for so long. We also find out that the the Zetton, named Edo, who's sort of the point mane on earth apparently has some sort of plan going on. We meet Moroboshi, I'm assuming it's Dan at this point, another member of the Science Patrol who does leads a strike/ investigation team and he's not too fond of the new Ultraman at this particular point. We also meet a cop who's investigating a series of murders that centers around a particular pop idol that he has a connection too. That for the moment seems to be the the current ongoing arc. There's another, more briskly paced one meaning they find the alien and send him in, one where Jiro is orderd to take him down.So far it's a more interesting read than volume one. Still a pretty fast read though. But like I said they seem t be building up the world a little more now, and hopefully the pop idol story will take a while. but as a Ultraman fan I would suggest that you would check it out.

I loved the battle scenes By Nicola Mansfield Shinjiro continues fighting petty criminals and likes the attention he gets so his reluctance to be Ultraman quickly dissipates. Then he's put to the ultimate test and sent to fight an alien. Lots of action in this volume! I loved the battle scenes. Lots of little things are going on with the plot as well: the reasons for the Ultraman scheme, the serial killer story, and Rena the pop star plays an important role. Everything is intriguing and as I said the action is great.

Picking up right where we left off and develops nicely as we near the end (which is what I like in a manga series). The theme of Ultraman in this story is much darker than the one I grew up with (yes, there is blood and deep plot). I can't wait to get my hands on Volume 3!
