Fairy Tail Master's Edition Vol. 1, by Hiro Mashima

About the Author Hiro Mashima was born in Nagano, Japan on May 3, 1977. He created RAVE for Weekly Shonen magazine in 1998 when he was just 21 years old, and in 4 short years the series has already spawned 18 volumes, 3 guide books, a hit anime series, 2 console video games, merchandise, and has been licensed around the world. Mashima-san is quite fond of his hair (he cuts it himself and constantly changes its color). He hates caterpillars (don't ask why) and any that get in his path are just asking to be squashed. Oh yeah, and his blood type is B.

Cozad I've always been an anime fan before manga, but I love the amazing Fairy Tail series so much that I wanted to start reading it for any things the anime might have missed or left out. But with over 50 volumes at over $10 a pop, $500+ seems to be a steep price for my budget to buy in this series. So it is either gradually buy each volume in hopes the local book store or online retailer doesn't run out of a certain volume or look at this option. This book is THICK for containing the first five volumes. But the pages are bigger with easier the read text and allow you to enjoy the beautiful artwork even more. While I was initially concerned that the paper quality could be flimsy enough that it could tear easily, I found upon starting that the quality was very good. The binding is good. The artwork is spaced well enough that the art isn't lost into the crease of the spine as you read. My only issue was that the top right corner of the book had a bend mark on the cover, but that is more Amazon's fault on handling. I plan to order Vol 2, because it is a great buy when you compare this to buying the 5 volumes individually (you save roughly 50% right now).If you are a Fairy Tail fanatic, then this is great for your collection. If you are new to the series, this is a great start for your amazing adventure!

Contains the first 5 volumes, that normally range from 9-11 dollars each, in a gigantic $25 bundle. This book is bigger than the average omnibus and made of a sturdier, slick paper. Overall, couldn't be more happy with this large print edition of Fairy Tail. Will definitely work towards owning the whole story through these volumes instead of the original ones.

While it might not be a great buy if you already have those issues, this is a large format book, much bigger pages than a traditional manga. The series itself is insanely popular, so I wont got into the details of content. I have seen the anime but these large collections are great for me to get the original stories and art at a much more affordable price than buying the books singly. The pages themselves are nice stock and this is a great way for new readers to get into the series.

This one does a little more world building than than the previous volume. We learn that Earth government aligned themselves with an interstellar organization that was helping keep aliens away from Earth for so long. We also find out that the the Zetton, named Edo, who's sort of the point mane on earth apparently has some sort of plan going on. We meet Moroboshi, I'm assuming it's Dan at this point, another member of the Science Patrol who does leads a strike/ investigation team and he's not too fond of the new Ultraman at this particular point. We also meet a cop who's investigating a series of murders that centers around a particular pop idol that he has a connection too. That for the moment seems to be the the current ongoing arc. There's another, more briskly paced one meaning they find the alien and send him in, one where Jiro is orderd to take him down.So far it's a more interesting read than volume one. Still a pretty fast read though. But like I said they seem t be building up the world a little more now, and hopefully the pop idol story will take a while. but as a Ultraman fan I would suggest that you would check it out.

I loved the battle scenes By Nicola Mansfield Shinjiro continues fighting petty criminals and likes the attention he gets so his reluctance to be Ultraman quickly dissipates. Then he's put to the ultimate test and sent to fight an alien. Lots of action in this volume! I loved the battle scenes. Lots of little things are going on with the plot as well: the reasons for the Ultraman scheme, the serial killer story, and Rena the pop star plays an important role. Everything is intriguing and as I said the action is great.

Picking up right where we left off and develops nicely as we near the end (which is what I like in a manga series). The theme of Ultraman in this story is much darker than the one I grew up with (yes, there is blood and deep plot). I can't wait to get my hands on Volume 3!

It's hard to summarize without spoilers but suffice to say Mark must deal with the shocking betrayal from the last book and perhaps his greatest challenge yet... fatherhood. After reviewing 10 'ultimate' volumes it's hard to come up with more superlatives for this series. It is unpredictable, it balances comic book-standards with some realistic plot points and it's willing to let characters go once they have filled their role. It's my favorite superhero book of the 2000s and now the 2010s as well. The best praise I can come up with is that I'm looking to sharply cut my book collection, getting rid of almost half of it. But Invincible will be staying and I'll be buying more.Another sign of how good it is, once I got it I read the whole book in one sitting. Then I took vol 9 down and reread that. I can't think of any other series where I do that.So yeah, buy this, buy the whole series. If you like superheroes you'll love this.

By Adam Philpott This chapter of the Invincible saga takes some very unexpected, and at times dark, turns. The series is as incredible as ever and this installment is a must read. If you're this far into it, you know you're going to anyway!

By Cassman This series continues to impress and these collections are the best way to take it all in whether you are a casual fan or a collector. The art is amazing and the extras are nice but the real meat and potatoes is the rich and involving ongoing story. Yet another entry in what may be the best comic currently on the market and in my opinion the best way to collect it.

The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell burners, Earth joined a vast empire that spanned the Milky Way. Our only worthwhile trade goods are our infamous mercenary legions, elite troops we sell to the highest alien bidder.

In the fourth book of the series, James McGill is up for promotion. Not everyone is happy about that, and McGill must prove he's worth his stripes. Deployed to a strange, alien planet outside the boundaries of the Galactic Empire, he's caught up in warfare and political intrigue. Earth expands, the Cephalopod Kingdom launches ships to stop us, and a grand conspiracy emerges among the upper ranks of the Hegemony military.

In Machine World McGill faces an entirely new kind of alien life, Galactic prosecution, and thousands of relentless squid troopers. He lives and dies in the falling ashes of the empire, a man of unique honor at the dawn of humanity's resurgence.

Machine World is a military science fiction novel by bestselling author B. V. Larson.

I don't feel that this book should get five stars, as I reserve that for a real classic or thought provoking story, but it deserves more than four stars.Heck, normally I don't even write reviews, but since everyone seems to be skipping the review process and this book is definitely worth buying, well, here I am.I really like the main character, James, and I hope to be reading more about him in the near future!

By Davis B B.V Larson has grown on me, this was the series I started with and have enjoyed it. One reviewer stated that McGill was becoming a schemer in the series, and with out giving away the story, I disagree. I believe he's handling situations as they come, and when other characters assume something of him if it helps the whole lot, he just smiles and nods. Kinda like taking the path of least resistance, but also holding firm to a set of principles. All that aside, still a great read in my opinion, especially since some sci-fi books focus too much on one element, fighting, technology, character development... Etc. It is a bit heavy in some areas, but honestly that contrasts nicely with the fighting. Because once that comes, this book can't be set down. Hope to see this series continue, many threads left to explore by the author and McGill himself.

I have read all the books in this series and enjoyed them. Very good editing. Lead character is better defined and as you read, author very clearly describes his thoughts - even when he seems to let his baser instincts rule. Interesting concept of soldiers being able to be reborn after dying. Clear description of rank system. Plenty of fighting from a ground fighters perspective. Interesting tale of deceit, manipulation, and power plays even when fighting for your life . Good book. Will buy next one when it comes out

This volume of the acclaimed Sunday newspaper strip starts with Prince Val trying to bust Sir Gawain out of jail, and includes a quest for the Holy Grail.

Vol. 12 of Fantagraphics’ award-winning series begins with Prince Valiant attempting to rescue Sir Gawain from prison. Most of the first half of this volume finds our two heroes fighting bullies, brigands and a despicable earl, but events soon turn very serious. Charged by King Arthur, Prince Valiant sets out on a quest to find the legendary Holy Grail. Should his mission fail the very foundation of the Fellowship of the Table Round is at stake. This volume concludes with the Misty Isles under attack, and leaves Queen Aleta perilously close to death. Full-color illustrations throughout

About the Author Hal Foster (1892-1982) created Prince Valiant in 1937. Though remaining involved with the strip until his death in 1982, Foster handed the bulk of the scripting and art chores over to his longtime assistant, John Cullen Murphy, in 1971.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Prince Valiant In Search Of The Holy Grail By Stephen Vincent Kempton It has been almost six months since Fantagraphics has brought us another volume of Prince Valiant in this jumbo Deluxe Hard Cover Collection. Two more years are collected in this volume. The years of 1959 and 1960 are collected this time . The beautifully restored art is on one giant page per Sunday strip. Even if you bought the first soft covers from Fantagraphics , you will want to rebuy these even better reproduced format.Master Comic Illustrator Neal Adams does the introduction this time talking about his boyhood introduction to Prince Valiant. Comic Historian Brian M. Kane provides an excellent 11 page article on Hal Foster's advertising art that he did for Johnson Outboard Motors with a lot of illustrations.Unlike last volume which featured a couple of solo tales for Prince Arn, Foster chooses to make Prince Valiant the focal character in this entire volume. Arn does reappear briefly towards the end of the collection. When last we left our Heroes , Prince Valiant was masquerading as a Minstrel and Sir Gawain was imprisoned in King Oswick's dungeon. Valiant spends the first three months in a clever plot to free Gawain. Then the duo take a leisurely route back to Camelot getting themselves involved in a couple smaller adventures. When Prince Valiant finally reaches Camelot he decides to have a few ales with the boys before he comes staggering back to his Queen Aleta. All this leads to an almost one year rift between the lovers as Prince Valiant ends up taking the Queen over his knee and spanking her. This ends up with Prince Valiant needing an excuse to leave Camelot for awhile. He chooses to seek knowledge about the Holy Grail. King Arthur has been losing many Knights to this Quest. Is there any validity to the existence of the Holy Grail.Prince Valiant's Quest takes him to Stonehenge and he has several other adventures including a confrontation with an Ogre. When Prince Valiant does return to Camelot he has no proof for King Arthur that the religious chalice is real.Queen Aleta gives Valiant such a frosty welcome that he immediately leaves again for battle. Prince Valiant with reckless abandonment leaps into the war with the Saxons until he is gravely wounded. King Arthur wisely orders Queen Aleta to his side and she restores his will to live. After they reconcile Valiant , Aleta , the returning Prince Arn and even the twin girls all journey to the Misty Isles. Queen Aleta's kingdom has need of her. The volume concludes on a cliff hanger as Prince Valiant is defending the Misty Isles from an attack from a neighboring kingdom. This beautiful volume is worth having on every collectors shelf for frequent re-visits.My Highest Recommendation.

A feast to the eyes and mind.I saw this comic strip since I was a child and fromthen I was fascinated by the drawings.I always wanted to draw like that. But neverunderstood the captions. Really they are notfor a child to read. It was until many many yearslater that I understood the story. This are really stories for you to read to your kids.Although not necessarily with the same words butwith words your kids can understand. It is unique in the world.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Prince Valiant is the comic strip pinnacle By Jim Davis Foster is in a holding pattern in this volume but the pattern is at a very high altitude. The two years of Sunday pages in this volume open with Val trying to rescue Gawain from a king holding him for ransom and ends with Val tracking down a king who had tried to conquer the Misty Isles and failing that, murder Aleta. In between there is a generous amount of violence, humor, romance, and other slices of medieval life. The primary character growth comes when Val's son Arn must cope with the first time he kills a man in battle. As always, Foster's artwork is superb, his plotting well paced and exciting, and his characters, despite the lack of growth in this volume, are either likable or despicable as Foster can make them. Foster never bothered with the anti-heroic type that was beginning its rise as the strips in this volume first appeared. The closest he comes is with Val's friend, the marauder Boltar, who, when not helping Val is sacking towns. The extras are not quite as generous as in previous volumes. We get no new biographical information on Foster. We do get a one page foreword by Neil Adams and some nice sample of Foster advertising art for Johnson outboards at the rear. All the volumes in this series are highly recommended. I hope these books continue past the previous softbound Fantagraphics series but that goal is years away.

This was a very well done graphic novel. I really enjoyed the artwork and enjoyed how the story is broadened.Hiro Shishigami has revealed to his friend Ando that he has strange biomechanical powers of his own, similar to Inuyashiki. However, Hiro proves that while power can be used for good (which is the direction Inuyashiki is exploring) it can also be used for evil. Hiro starts embarking down a dark path with his new powers. As Hiro’s kill count rises it looks like Inuyashiki may be the only one who can stop him.I enjoyed this volume of Inuyashiki a lot, but not quite as much as the first volume. This volume is full of very graphic and gory violence (brutal murder of a family...including kids and baby) and also has a sex scene with partial nudity. It’s rated Older Teen, but I am thinking it’s probably more appropriate for adult readers. Here we get an indepth look into Hiro’s activities...and Hiro is one sick cookie. You also get a bit hint as to where the story is going….it looks like Hiro is going to be the super evil bad dude and Inuyashiki is going to be the unlikely savior. I am hoping the story is more complex and interesting than that in the long run...I would really like to know more about the origin of these characters’ crazy powers. The drawing is incredibly detailed and absolutely amazing throughout; I really enjoyed it. I am also very curious as to where this story is going.Overall an incredible continuation of this graphic novel series, but much more gory and violent than the first volume. I really loved the illustration and am finding the story to be incredibly intriguing. I would recommend to those who enjoy sci-fi manga.

Inuyashiki, being the hero of this book still makes a few appearances, and learns more about his powers along the way.Vol 2. is just as captivating as Vol 1, and begs for continued reading.

The art is absolutely fantastic for a start. I think he may have used real photographs at certain points to make them look like drawings, not sure it's amazing anyway. The story is disturbing. This volume concentrates on the young man who was present on the hill and needless to say, he is the antithesis to the old man; a serial killer in the making with no moral convictions at all. He doesn't seem to have any humanity left and we have his friend with him to judge his former self with his new machine self. There does seem to be a tiny vestige of what he may have been lurking inside, but we'll have to see. The old man, Inuyashiki gets his fair share of time here too though and he learns more of what he can do and tries out more of his chosen path by using his powers for good; it isn't going to be easy but it makes him feel better than anything in his life ever has so far. An interesting look at what makes us human, good vs evil, man vs machine. This volume is brutally violent, stomach churningly so and contains an almost X-rated sex scene. I'm apprehensive about the next volume. The story is deep; I want to see how Inuyashiki progresses but I'm uneasy as to where Hiro's sadistic charater will plummet. I'll be reading volume three and then we'll see if I go further.

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Great read. By Amazon Customer Interesting stories, good art, what I expected. Pretty straight forward. If you like the empire era like I do, you'll like this book.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. If you like vol. 1 you'll like vol. 2 By L. J. Webb A great follow up to volume one, continuing the stories of the scattered Jedi after order 66. If you liked the characters in the first volume, this is a must read.

2 of 44 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing and Sexist follow-up to volume 1 By J Smith This is the worst Star Wars comic I have ever read. It is consistently and disgustingly sexist throughout, and the writing is otherwise mediocre at best.
