This is much more economical than purchasing issue by issue, so much so that I actually decided to purchase this even though I had already purchased Spider-Gwen #1. I missed the need to check out Edge of the Spiderverse #2 on initial purchase, which was a bummer because you feel like you are definitely missing a piece of the story if you just start with Spider-Gwen #1.Art is lovely and story is amusing enough, although each issue is just painfully short. In my opinion it makes it kind of nice to have in this format- chances are you will plow through the whole thing in one sitting, so to not have to go grab multiple issues is kind of nice.Wish the cover had been slightly more rigid, this will feel reminiscent of picking up a national geographic magazine. We have a lot of graphic novel style format books in our house- Wolverine, Preacher, Thor Vol 1, Transmetropolitan etc- all of those have a lot more rigidity than this issue of spider-gwen due to their covers. The cover on this spider-gwen is just barely heavier than the regular pages. The issue I received from amazon was in a bubblewrap envelope, with nothing rigid and came slightly curled in the center. It wasn't so severe that I couldn't just put it under something heavy for a few hours to straighten it out, but if you are OCD about keeping your stuff perfect, you've been forewarned to get it locally where you can be sure it gets into your hands in nice condition.

Gwen doesn't act like Peter Parker By Amazon Customer Jason Latour's Spider-Gwen is a refreshing and new take on Spider-Man that is sure to leave you wanting more. Gwen doesn't act like Peter Parker, doesn't make the same choices and is struggling to make the whole 'vigilante superhero thing' work. It's interesting to see how she tries to lead a double-life being the new wall-crawler and maintain her civilian life.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The newsest Spider on the block. By scikaiju a little explanation, this is an alternate universe one where Gwen Stacy, Peter's late flame in the regular universe, was the one bitten by the radioactive spider. This particular trade contains Spider-Gwen(she's called Spider-woman in the comics, the book called Spider-Gwen partially because there's already a Spider Woman title) debut issue in the edge of the Spider Verse mini (a spider-man story line at the time) And the first 5 issue of her ongoing comic.Over all it's a pretty good book, Gwen make an interesting Spider character, although the "Parker luck" as it's been called seems to come from the spider. Spider-Gwen is wanted for the death of Peter Parker, I won't go into why. Her dad, Detective Stacy, is in charge of a task force to bring her in. And J. johana Jameson is still calling the resident Spider a her a meanece (some things never change I suppose) and most of the city sees her as a criminal. So we see Gwen try to deal with this in both sides of her life. As for Gwen herself, she's definately a modern young woman, out of High School and trying to find her own way, and dropping bombs evey so often. The supporting cast is pretty cool with Gwen being the drummer for The Mary Janes, although MJ herself, or Em Jay as they call her seems a bit obsessed with her group making it big. And there's more than a few familiar faces and names, How Matt Murdock turned out was a surprise, but that's part of the fun with a AU tale, usual status qou doesn't have to apply. If you're a spider fan, or looking for something that's a bit fun I would highly recommend checking it out.

The Answer Man, by Roy Johansen

Amazon.com Review If Roy Johansen's first thriller has a definite cinematic flair, it's no big surprise: he's a successful screenwriter. But there's a lot more than visual movement to recommend this exciting and original novel--beginning with a hero with an entirely new occupation. Atlanta-based Ken Parker runs a polygraph service, administering lie-detector tests to felons. And it's no lie that his own life is a mess of bad debts and failed responsibilities. So when a gorgeous lawyer named Myth Daniels and her client Burton Sabini offer Parker a much-needed $50,000 to help Burton pass an upcoming polygraph test, Parker hesitates for only a heartbeat before accepting. But his luck continues to run cold: a man whose life was ruined by a faulty polygraph reading attacks him. This man then winds up dead, closely followed by Burton Sabini. Not surprisingly, Parker fits the frame for both murders. The only person who believes he didn't do it is a marvelous creation called Hound Dog, a 21-year-old woman who photographs crime scenes. She and Parker have the kind of offbeat energy and instant credibility that get you over a couple of rough spots in Johansen's quirky and compulsively readable fiction debut. --Dick Adler

From Publishers Weekly Down and out in Atlanta, Ken Parker is a polygraph examiner whose life just can't get any worseAor so he thinks. His wife has just left him, his car has been repossessed and his disabled Gulf War veteran brother is being swindled by an insurance company. Desperate for cash, Ken accepts an illegal $50,000 job from beautiful defense attorney Myth Daniels to teach her client, embezzler Burton Sabini, how to beat a polygraph. Then matters spin downward from bad to horrific. A polygraph test subject whose life was ruined by Ken's faulty reading attacks Ken and then turns up dead in a Dumpster. Sabini passes his polygraph test but later is also found dead in an alley, with Ken's phone number on him. Under suspicion for both killings, Ken is now suspicious of Myth. Enter Hound Dog, a 21-year-old woman whose obsession is getting information from a police scanner to find crime scenes to photograph; she delivers some bad news to Ken about Myth's past. Trying to clear his name, Ken stumbles across another murder, an attack on Hound Dog's boyfriend and a suspect who turns out to be Ken's still-beloved ex-wife. The offbeat narrative of Johansen's debut races cleanly through a maze of techno clues and multiple suspects, pulling readers along for a quirky ride with likable companions. Most notable of these is Ken, a classic amateur thriller hero who suffers endless humiliations while solving just enough of the puzzle to put everyone in grave danger when he guesses wrong. He deserves a sequel, and this novel's bittersweet finale gives strong hope of that. Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From Kirkus Reviews Screenwriter Johansen (Edgar Awardwinner for Murder 101 on cable TV) tries his hand at the thriller and comes up with aces. Ken Parker, 34, administers polygraph tests in Atlantabut hates his job. Not everything else is so great, either. He has just paid off $140,000 in medical debt for his late father; his brother Bobby is laid up with a Gulf War disease; and he sees a girlfriend every week or two. So busy is he, says his running buddy and ex-wife Margot, taking care of everyone else, that he forgets to take care of himself. Then one day Myth Daniels, a woman attorney, induces him into her parlor to meet the accused man Burton Sabini, whos about to take a polygraph test that will either get him off scot- free or put him in prison. Insisting that he's innocent, he offers Ken $50,000 to train him to beat the polygraph. At first Ken says no, but then the VA invalidates payment for brother Bobbys diagnostic tests, the repo man gets his Mustang, and an eviction notice hits his office door. Ken takes the job. Meanwhile, Carlos, who lost his own job because of Ken's report on him, gives him a vicious working overand then afterward is murdered. Sabini's ex-boss, Herbert Decker, threatens him and wants the $12 million back that he thinks Sabini embezzled from his company. Amidst all this, Ken has 12 days to train Sabiniand succeeds: Sabini passes the test, and Myth throws Ken a lovebolt as reward. The trouble is, Sabini, who's supposed to pay Ken the money for his work, is stabbed to death first. Kens only way out of the hole is to find the missing money that Sabini clearly stole. Where's the $12 mill? One violent act follows another, including the torching of Ken's office. Fiction newcomer Johansen plots like a string of firecrackers. Nothing fancybut not a moment's rest, either. -- Copyright ©1999, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

By A Customer Roy Johansen's "The Answer Man" is a story that grabs your attention and holds you captive until the very end! The characters are well thought-out and deveolped, with very interesting backgrounds. Just when you think you know where the plot will take you next, BAM!, Mr. Johansen takes you in a totally different direction! I love that in a story! I want to read more, especially about Hound Dog's interesting hobby. Maybe a sequel???

Ken Parker hates his job because he knows his findings can ruin lives. Being broke with high medical bills caused by his brother's illness leaves Ken with no choice, but to continue with his present job. When a defense attorney offers Ken $50,000 to teach her client how to cheat on the test, he accepts.Vickers Industry accuses their former employee Ms. Saboni of embezzling $12 million from the firm. He swears he never took any money and Ken insures she "passes" the test. However, he only collects $10,000 and decides to collect the rest plus interest from the missing money. Ken soon finds himself in an avaricious world where one misstep could lead to death.THE ANSWER MAN carefully scrutinizes corporate espionage and its impact on a wide range of individuals, which provides readers a lucid look into white-collar crime. The engaging Ken is a decent person, struggling between personal ethics and pending bankruptcy. The audience will want more appearances from this likable antihero.Harriet Klausner

There's suspense, humor and clever plot twists, plus some very involving moments concerning a man's efforts to beat a polygraph. The characters were people I enjoyed spending time with, which is one of my main requirements for a good novel. Highly recommended!

This book contains Issues #1 -10 and is much shorter than described online. The description lists Issues #1 - 20, which is way off. Overall this is a good book with high gloss pages unlike the Batman Adventures volumes which consist of pages similar to the Sunday paper. Please do not mislead buyers with incorrect information.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Look, Up in the Sky By Charles Coulter Really nice for kids and adults. Scott McCloud "Understanding Comics Art" has his understanding on fine display, and I can share the book with my little ones as a nice break from chapter books with a character they came to know from Cartoon Network's Justice League. At the time when this book came out, oddly, it may have been the best Superman comic on the stands with exceptions like "Superman: For All Seasons" coming along, I believe, far later in its run. A nice palete cleanser from the chic doom and gloom that overtakes way too many comics, where sometimes (not always) the grit is just a substitute for storytelling chops.

Finally a great series gets it's due By Ken Adams Mark Millar, and other fantastic talent that was unappreciated at the time, make these long out of print stories absolutely fantastic. If you were one of the many Timm-verse, animated DCU fans, you will enjoy this. I loved Superman the Animated Series ,and the Bruce Timm designs, which sadly usually suffers from lack of attention due to the shadow of the equally awesome but infinitely more popular Batman the animated series. Well, we're finally getting these stories, old fans! Enjoy, as intended.

Buy it if you're a Diehard fan, skip if you haven't seen the anime yet By Luke Having loved every bit of the anime, I was really looking forward to getting my hands on an English version of the manga. I knew nothing about the manga version in particular, nor anything about the artist. While there is nothing wrong with this manga per say, it certainly doesn't do the anime justice. The artwork is very plain in comparison to many others I've read, and the detail doesn't ever match that of what you'd see in the anime. The story is fine, as it doesn't deviate from the story in the anime - that is, if you don't count them cutting out parts of the story in general. I wouldn't say it skips important parts, but it cuts out much of the smaller parts of the story, segments that help world build, develop character or backstory, etc. You see this alot in the anime, but very little in the manga. That and the plot is very rushed in the manga, as you reach some critical parts of the story much earlier than you'd expect, in comparison to how a general manga volume covers about 2 - 3 episodes of an anime. Here, it covers up to 12 episodes. Very rushed.Overall, I still enjoyed getting to see these beloved characters outside of a screen or monitor, but I just wish they were better portrayed than this - it almost feels like an injustice to see anything but the best for a story such as Steins;Gate.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. It starts off a bit slow and jagged but things come together quickly and it then flowed nicely. The plot heats up By Nicola Mansfield I'm not an anime watcher so hadn't heard of this but the premise sounded promising for me to give the manga a go and I have to say I was impressed. A realistic science-fiction tale that felt actually unique. It starts off a bit slow and jagged but things come together quickly and it then flowed nicely. The plot heats up, moving forward always, ending this volume with a tense moment. All the characters are given plenty of character development and there is an unusual selection of differing types. The text messages that alter time are cool, seeing how the small changes make an affect on the world as they know it, but I'm waiting to see if this will all come to some big crisis further down the road. Would love to read the next volume!

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Meh... By Joshua Cooper The art direction looks awkward and just doesn't fit steins;gate. In addition they just jumble all the plot together and leave out so much steins;gate goodness. Would not recommend for people who haven't read the VN or seen the anime. Still wouldn't recommend it even if you have.
