I can't wait to sit with my boys and read these. Nice, hard but soft (maybe padded or thick?) cover, durable pages but not like board books for toddlers either. I'm sure they will be read many times!

Will Eisner (1917–2005) is universally considered the master of comics storytelling, best known for The Spirit, his iconic newspaper comic strip, and A Contract With God, the first significant graphic novel. This seminal work from 1978 ushered in a new era of personal stories in comics form that touched every adult topic from mortality to religion and sexuality, forever changing the way writers and artists approached comics storytelling. Noted historian Paul Levitz celebrates Eisner by showcasing his most famous work alongside unpublished and rare materials from the family archives. Also included are original interviews with creators such as Jules Feiffer, Art Spiegelman, Scott McCloud, Jeff Smith, Denis Kitchen, and Neil Gaiman—all of whom knew Eisner and were inspired by his work to create their own graphic novels for a new generation of readers. NOTE: The cover is a high-quality photographic reproduction of Eisner's original art. The design intentionally reveals tape and other stray markings that are part of the artist's process and reflect the age of the artifact that was photographed.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Images reproduced from original artwork By Diego Cordoba Having read all of Eisner’s graphic novels, collected the Spirit in various formats (when it appeared in the Warren magazines, as a comic book published by Kitchen Sink and the slightly recent DC Spirit Library hardcover reprints), and followed the ‘Will Eisner Quarterly Magazine’ published by Kichen Sink, there’s practically nothing I’ve left out on this man’s career (I don’t really care what he did for the army). I also had a chance to meet him personally in Europe and talk to him about comic books, as I was one of the few fans over there who actually spoke English. That said, what could I possibly find interesting in this book that I haven’t seen or read a million times before?Being a long time fan of Eisner’s work (and who isn’t), I had to buy this book to see what else is new about him. Unfortunately, not much, though Paul Levitz does a rather excellent job on recounting Eisner’s life for the umpteenth time (no actual interviews with Eisner though), but what abolutely blew my mind is that most of the images we see here are scanned from the original artwork, and that alone is worth getting hold of this book (whether you are a long-time fan, or new to Eisner’s work). Some images (bits of them) are even published at their original size, or even larger to better appreciate the actual art.In conclusion, while I didn’t learn anything new (and Levitz wastes too much pages discussing who produced the first graphic novel—as Eisner has been credited on having coined the term—but who cares, really?), it’s the artwork that is a joy to admire and feast your eyes over. For those who don’t know anything about Eisner, this is a good (and great) way to start, and as I said, old fans will rejoice on seeing images scanned from Eisner’s original art, something of a rarity, since Eisner held on to it for a long time (he didn’t want to sell me any of his pieces—at least not twenty years ago). All in all, highly recommended.

Bury your enemies, and bury them deep.

John Milton thought he was done with Avi Bachman. The most dangerous man he's ever known has been incarcerated in Angola, the brutal Louisiana prison. Inmates rarely leave Angola. Once you go in, the only way out is in a box. But Bachman is no ordinary prisoner. He was an assassin for the Mossad, and he has favours to call in.

Milton is in the Australian outback with an old friend and his flirtatious kid sister, looking for a summer's peace to put his troubled mind to rest. But Bachman has other plans. He thinks that Milton killed his wife, and now he wants revenge.

From Australia to Israel, from Hong Kong to Croatia, here is the conclusion of this brutal chapter in Milton's life. The two headhunters are on a collision course, and only one of them will walk away. Don't start this audiobook in bed - you will lose sleep.

Mark Dawson has worked as a lawyer and currently works in the London film industry. His first books, The Art of Falling Apart and Subpoena Colada have been published in multiple languages. He is currently writing three series.

The John Milton series features a disgruntled assassin who aims to help people make amends for the things he has done.

The Beatrix Rose series features the headlong fight for justice of a wronged mother - who happens to be an assassin - against the six names on her kill list.

Soho Noir is set in the West End of London between 1940 and 1970. The first book in the series, The Black Mile, deals with the (real-life but little-known) serial killer who operated in the area during the Blitz. The Imposter traces the journey of a criminal family through the period; it has been compared to The Sopranos in austerity London.

12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. An Epic Showdown By Bookworm Sandy In this seventh book in the John Milton series, former British secret operative John Milton has left New Orleans (Book 6 -- Salvation Row) and found his way to Australia's Outback, where he is working on a sheep ranch owned by a former soldier with whom he once served. Being out of touch with the world, he is unaware that a rogue Mossad agent named Avi Bachman, who nearly killed him in New Orleans, has escaped from prison and is hunting Milton down with the help and resources of the Mossad. This sets up the action for a showdown between two highly-trained, stone-cold killers in a battle worthy of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Upping the ante is a potential love interest for Milton in the form of his army buddy's sister, Matilda, and the return of Ziggy the hacker, who had been with Milton in New Orleans and had seen the murderous Bachman in action. Will these two people become pawns or players in the end game?As usual, Mark Dawson describes the locations of his novels so vividly that the settings become characters in their own right. In Headhunters, you can almost feel the heat and taste the dust of the Australian Outback. When the action moves to Ziggy in Japan, the author bombards you with the sensory overload that is crowded Tokyo. Although I've never traveled to either place, I have there in my mind through his evocative writing. This ability to paint in words is truly a gift to his readers.I think this is the best Milton novel yet. The action is amped up, the fight is very personal and the stakes are, literally, life-or-death. The emotional charge between Milton and an enemy has never been this strong. And Milton has never had reason to lay it all on the line like this before. The ending will leave you totally gob-smacked. Way to write a thriller, Mr. Dawson. Bravo!

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. You won't be disappointed By Amazon Customer This is yet another great Milton adventure. It took awhile for John Milton to make an appearance in this book but the story jumped up a notch not long after he showed up. My first thought upon reading this book is that I've once again forgotten just how much detail goes into a Mark Dawson novel. I usually spend my time between new Dawson releases reading novels by authors unknown to me but have a 4 or 5 star rating. (I subscribe to kindle unlimited.) I've learned from this tasting of a large sample of independent authors that the quality of work ranges dramatically. At a time when the average Joe can publish a book with relative ease, the amount of work readers have to wade through to find a truly good one has increased dramatically. Along the same lines, any average Joe has been given the power to write a review and the result is that a 4 or 4.5 star book can make you wonder how it got that rating in the first place!I can say with utmost confidence if you enjoy spy thrillers, Mark Dawson is the man. Whether you read his John Milton series or Beatrix Rose series, you'll be hooked. Pick any one them up and go on an awesome adventure for a day or two. You won't be disappointed. And I, for one, am once again wading through the voluminous and sometimes dense sea of kindle unlimited books with a heavy heart. But I know I'll run into my good friend John Milton again.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. John Milton is back and better than ever!!!!!! By Janice Mann Get ready for one of the best John Milton adventures ever - in fact, I think it's the very best one, but I love them all. Mark Dawson takes his readers on a thrilling adventure, and his ability to make his readers feel like they are right there with John is phenomenal. I, like another reviewer, felt like I could see, taste, and smell the hot, dusty Australian Outback, as well as feel like I was right there in the teeming streets of Tokyo, and I fell in love with the villa by the sea!! Because of Mark Dawson's awesome ability of description, I am a world traveler without leaving the comfort of my own home! The excitement was non-stop, and I could feel the fear as John faced his worst enemy ever, one that nearly killed him in their last encounter, and one that John was very afraid might kill him in this one. I am not going to give out any spoilers, but, for fans of Mark Dawson's books, Ziggy is back and better than ever, and a new love interest, Matilda, makes it even more exciting. The ending blew me away! Yes, I feel this is the best John Milton ever, and because Mark Dawson just keeps getting better and better, I can't wait for the next one.If you like excitement and nail-biting adventure, get this book!! And then, if you haven't read the other ones, go and buy them all!! You will not be sorry!!

25 of 25 people found the following review helpful. Great packaging! By nairn268 My package arrived undamaged, because the manufacturer did an excellent job designing the product box and amazon packed it well.Several years ago I stopped buying Manga distributed by Viz, because they just stopped releasing the Manga I was collecting at the time (Strawberry 100% / Ichigo 100%). They didn't ever say they cancelled the series or lost the distribution rights... They just stopped releasing / talking about it at volume 14 out of 19. I said at the time I would never buy one of their series again until the whole thing was completed.Well they finally finished a series I was interested in and released it at a cheaper box set price. Honestly I am super happy with the packing and quality of the product. So this product get 5/5 stars, but Viz still gets 0/5 stars in my book.

By Shounoi Normally.. buying manga isn't my type of thing, but this is really a steal. (6 years ago) I was at my local book store one day and read the first chapter of this strange start of a great series. I was so hook on it that I legit needed help because I would just stay there hours on end reading chapter after chapter. I told myself that I would stop reading these great novels if they ever made a giant collectors box with all of them in.. Fast forward 6 years later, you can probably see where the premise of me writing this review is. I loved the anime but the manga is where its at, the tone between the two is so different. For starters, the anime adaptation has more of a watered down story and.. well, fan service to boot. Yes, I did enjoy it so much that I watched the season multiple times. But the manga, is "soooooooo" good in terms of story. I can at least note that the first chapter and the last chapter in terms of art style is different in a positive way! Each book is something to behold and towards the end of season two they start to give mini poster in the last few volumes. If you are into manga and love monster lore and a little bit of harems then this series is for you and the story starts to develop in a beautiful rose towards the end of the series. *Will update with pictures soon*

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Its strength is in its little moments By Robert Fisher The third volume of Evergreen is out and I continue to enjoy this series. Evergreen succeeds with gem-like little moments. One of the best has Niki and Hotaka sharing a lunch, spitting out watermelon seeds and imagining the seeds growing into a patch by their school. It's nothing bombastic; but it does show the growing attraction between the two of them. Now if you want dramatic, that is taken care of by Hitachi On, the vice president of Hotaka's manga club. She has the combined drama of an entire theater company, which she demonstrates when she introduces herself to Niki or when she decides to give Hotaka some relationship advice. Evergreen is a series well worth checking out.
